Due to the fast food culture that has taken over our food choices, it’s become quite of a challenge to be able to make smart food choices. Children and adults alike would rather prefer junk food over traditionally cooked food because of its simplicity in preparation, enhanced taste and instant gratification. It’s unfortunate that most people don’t take into consideration that nutritional value should be the most important thing that motivates the food choices and not just taste. If you’re one of those who constantly struggle with choosing nutritious food over mere junk, then here is a simple and healthy food nutrition guide that can help you get started on making that transition to healthier eating.

Make it a habit to read the nutrition box

The nutrition box which is displayed on all types of packaged food is there so that you know the nutritional value of the foods you eat and the calories that are present, depending on the number of servings you consume. Just by making it a constant habit to read what’s written on it will help you get an idea on what types of food that you should consume more and what types of food you should avoid.

Follow a personalized nutritionist’s food guide

If you are obese or gravely undernourished, then it would be best to ask the advice of a professional nutritionist immediately. Nutritionists are experts on knowing which foods have what types of vitamins, minerals and nutrients in them and can help you by providing you a detailed plan on the types of food you should be eating depending on your weight and body’s health.

Have at least 5 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables

As a general rule, fruits and vegetables should always be regularly consumed in big quantities each day for their high vitamin and minerals content. Following a food nutrition guide that is brimming with Fruits and vegetables is also a great way for a person to maintain their weight without having to take the drastic measures of extreme dieting or over exercising. Since they are also rich is water, they can easily satisfy any hunger pangs or remedy blood sugar levels when they drop.

Cut back on foods that contains saturated and processed fats

Saturated and processed fats are basically the cornerstone of the fast food diet and have contributed greatly to the rising obesity rate that the world is experiencing today. Saturated and processed fats should be cut back to the recommended minimum amount as, although they make food very tasty, they can have a serious effect on your health when consumed in excess.

Repeat the phrase “you are what you eat” to yourself over and over again

Always remember that you are what you eat. So if you eat healthy foods, then you will have a healthy body in return. On the other hand, if you eat junk, then your body will reap the consequences. Never compromise your health by being indifferent to foods with real nutritional value. Keep this simple and healthy food nutrition guide in mind and in no time you will be eating your way to a healthier and stronger body than ever.

I love blueberries, don’t you? As you may or may not know they’re one of my favorite things to put in my smoothie blends. They’re so good and can be used in so many ways that many people forget they are a source of good nutrition.

Aside from the taste, blueberries come highly packed with antioxidants which help your body combat disease and age gracefully. Speaking of antioxidants, blueberries contain the highest capacity per serving of antioxidants when compared to many other known fruits and, as you know, antioxidants are a key to good nutrition.

According to experts, other known benefits of blueberries include brain health, motor skills, cancer, eye sight and heart health.

Just like any other wonderfully tasting fruit, blueberries are very seasonal so you’ll have to keep an eye out for them in your local grocery store or farmers market to catch them at their best. There are ways to get your servings in and out of season however. You can buy frozen blueberries in the frozen and cold section of your local supermarket. I did this last year when my mother wanted to make some muffins. She had plain muffin mix so she just made the muffins and I added the frozen blueberries.

If good nutrition is the first and foremost thing on your mind, blueberries are available in supplement form. Yeah, I didn’t know that either until recently. Blueberry supplements are made naturally and can give you a high dose of antioxidant benefit.

If you haven’t already, pick up a pack of blueberries next time you’re in the produce, refrigerated, or supplement section. Aside from being a good source of nutrition, they’ll give life to any fruit blend, breakfast or snack choice. Enjoy your wellness.

For more and more people, home exercise and fitness equipment has become a must-have item. The convenience of having access to exercise equipment in their home is a big factor, as is the cost savings of home fitness equipment in comparison to gym or fitness club memberships.

But what is the best home exercise equipment on the market? The answer is “it depends” because each person has different needs, different space available to hold home fitness equipment, and different budgets available to spend.

In generally, the simplest equipment is the most likely to be used on a regular basis. If you select home fitness equipment that is too complicated, too hard, or just not something you like to do, chances are it will sit in a corner somewhere collecting dust. Think carefully about what kind of equipment you are most likely to use, and whenever possible, try it out ahead of time to make sure you really like it.

Home Gyms

A common piece of home fitness equipment is the home gym. This type of equipment is primarily used for building muscle, shaping, and toning the body. There are three main types of home gyms:

o Traditional

o Power rod

o Gravity resistance

Traditional home gyms may have free weights and barbells, or be machine-type gyms with several stations and functions attached to a single steel frame. A free weight system is good for exercise enthusiasts who are knowledgeable about proper form and technique for lifting weights. For less experienced users, though, a machine-type gym offers most of the same benefits while helping to ensure good technique by using prescribed motions. A traditional home gym usually requires quite a bit of space to hold the equipment and also allow enough room around the perimeter to access the stations and perform exercises.

Power rod home gyms have surged in popularity over the last decade, driven primarily by the Bowflex brand of home fitness equipment. A power rod machine uses flexible rods of varying stiffness connected to a cable and pulley system. When the cables are attached to different rods the user can either increase or decrease the resistance they will experience. Power rod equipment typically requires less space than a traditional home gym and is usually less expensive. The materials are not as durable, though, and this type of home fitness equipment is not suitable for serious athletes who require sturdier equipment with a greater range of weight resistance.

Gravity resistance home gyms are typically the lightest weight and least expensive type of home gym. This home fitness equipment uses an adjustable metal frame and a gliding board or bench to perform exercises. The user lies on the board in various positions, and by pulling on a cable and pulley system, the weight of their body creates the resistance they experience. This type of system is often quite compact, folding up for easy storage. The disadvantage to that feature, though, is that equipment kept out of site tends to be out of mind and not used on a regular basis.

Treadmills

Another popular type of home fitness equipment is the treadmill. While this tends to be a large piece of equipment and can be quite expensive, it is also a very versatile piece that is suitable for exercise enthusiasts of varying fitness and skill levels. The most expensive models are extremely durable and can handle a great deal of intense use by serious runners. More mid-range models are not quite as durable, and the low-end models are generally best suited for walking and light uses.

Treadmills can take up quite a bit of space so you should make sure your home can accommodate the size and weight of whichever model you select. Do not put your treadmill in a garage or any other space that is not climate controlled, because the motor and other parts are not designed for outdoor or semi-outdoor use. Look for a treadmill that has at least a 1.5 horsepower motor, and preferably one that is 2.0 horsepower or more. The belt should be long enough and wide enough to accommodate the length and width of your stride, and it should be constructed of at least two-ply material to withstand the friction and impact of your activity.

Elliptical Trainers

This type of home fitness equipment first appeared in the 1990’s, and it has gained tremendously in popularity ever since. Modern elliptical trainers provide motion and exercise to both the upper and lower body, making it an effective and efficient full body workout.

When looking for an elliptical trainer, whenever possible opt for a rear drive system rather than a front drive system. Rear drive machines are far sturdier, more reliable, and provide a smoother motion for the user. The resistance system will vary according to price, with the least expensive models using a manual system, mid-range models using a motorized brake system, and the most sophisticated high-end models employing an eddy current brake system. Stride length is another important thing to keep in mind, because different people have different natural strides. Look for an elliptical trainer that allows you adjust the stride length to suit your own body style and stride length.

Stationary Bikes

Stationary bikes have been around for several decades, yet they remain popular as simple, easy to use home fitness equipment. Modern stationary bikes come in many shapes and sizes, so it is fairly straightforward to find one that fits in the available space inside your home. While traditional bikes have the user sitting upright, just as they would on a regular bicycle, more and more exercise enthusiasts are turning to recumbent seating instead. A recumbent exercise bike allows you to sit in a slightly reclined position while pedaling with your legs in front of you. The benefit of this type of bike is that is places much less strain on the back, making it well suited to people who are prone to back soreness or pain. Some models also come with the option of arm motion, too, usually accomplished with handles or a cable and pulley system.

Summary

Whatever type of home fitness equipment you choose, the most important thing to do is select something that you will find enjoyable, convenient, and easy to use. If you don’t, it is likely that you will gradually stop using it and it will become just another item sitting unused in the corner. The best home fitness equipment is that which you use regularly, so make your own comfort level the most important consideration when making a selection.

I had a cup of apple juice this morning which influenced me for this post. hadn’t had a cup in quite some time so I forgot how good it tasted. I also forgot how it can be an excellent source of good nutrition.

Apple juice comes packed with vitamins B and C. It contains minerals such as iron, chlorine, phosphorus, potassium and calcium. Apple juice has been known to aid in constipation due to it’s content of pectin which also regulates the amount of bacteria in the colon.

Now that we’ve gotten some nutritional fun facts out of the way, my question to you is how do you take it? Simply Apple? Minute Maid? Do you juice it yourself?

Whichever way you prefer it is fine, but remember this: The cloudier the juice, the more antioxidants are in that glass. Just remember that next time you’re pouring yourself some. As for myself, I don’t think there’s anything better than fresh juice straight from the fruit. When I’m making my fruit blends or juice drinks, I put the apple in along with the skin. Why? Experts believe that juicing the apple along with the skin will give you greatest quantities of anti-oxidants and minerals.

The nutritional benefits of drinking apple juice can provide an excellent source of good nutrition. Blend em, juice em or buy it already made in the store. Either way you can’t go wrong. Enjoy your wellness.

So I was doing some research last night on one of my Achilles heels. Fatigue. Even though I try to eat right and exercise, I still have my mornings when I wake up with that sluggish feeling of fatigue.

Do you do the same? If so, what are your reasons? Stress, depression or too much junk food? Well my mother put me on to a smoothie blend that might help fight that chronic fatigue.

2 apples

1 banana

1/2 cup of fresh or frozen strawberries

1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt

1/2 teaspoon of lemon and/or lime juice

1/4-1/2 cup of ice (or water if you want it at room temp)

2 dashes of cinnamon

Now instead of trying this when I wake up in the morning, I’m gonna fix it in the early afternoon. You know, that time of the day when your bed is beckoning you for a nap. I’m choosing to do this because that’s my peak time for fighting fatigue. If yours is in the morning, try it when you wake up. Or mid morning, do the same. I’ll follow up on how I feel and I’d love to hear what it does for you. Enjoy your wellness.

Bodyweight exercises are designed so that you can use your own “body weight” to provide the tension and resistance normally associated with weight training equipment. However, bodyweight exercise is different from traditional weight training in that while it localizes specific areas of your body for building strength and endurance, contrary to traditional weight training methods it also builds strength and endurance throughout your whole body.

There are five tips for making the most of the method of bodyweight exercise. First, use timed circuits. Second, add cardio vascular exercises to your bodyweight exercise workout. Third, to achieve fat burning results, break up your exercise routine into several short routines throughout the day instead of one long one. Fourth, keep a workout log. Fifth, vary your routine. Don’t let it become boring, if it is you don’t want to do it anymore.

What are timed circuits? The International Sports Science Association defines circuit training as “a “series of exercises, performed one after the other, with little rest in between.” Time circuits are simply performing one exercise for a specified number of repetitions during an allotted period of time. For example, completing 30 sit ups, then 30 push ups each of them in 30 seconds with a 30 rest in between would be an example of timed circuits. One of the most advantageous aspects of timed circuits is its adaptability to your specific goal, achievement in a sport or to your fitness level.

Adding cardio vascular exercises to your bodyweight exercises is important because it keeps your heart rate up as well as encourages over all body exercise. In order to incorporate cardio routines in your bodyweight exercise routine is to simply walk prior to working out, but a better method would be to use several warm up and stretching exercises in a timed circuit routine. For example, start with steps, add wide swinging arms, then a bodyweight exercise, and then add lunges. The cardio component should also be limited in time and repetitions.

For both the bodyweight exercise and cardio vascular routines to achieve the best possible fat burning results you should break them up into shorter workouts more than once a day. Instead of a total routine for 30 minutes, try three ten minutes work outs a day. Try this instead of a coffee break at the office, you may come back rejuvenated.

By keeping track of your routine, either by writing it in a notebook, using an online training log, spreadsheet you have created on your own or one of many books available just for this purpose, helps you in keeping track of your times, repetitions, personal achievements, goals and growth in your bodyweight exercise routine. A training log can give you incentive to compete against yourself or a work out partner as well as positive affirmation of your progress.

Lastly, try varying your routine. Look at your training record and change up the bodyweight exercises you use on a regular basis. Since there are approximately 25 standard exercises that almost everyone knows, from beginner to professional it is easy to either keep to the ones you know the best or to not make the most of your bodyweight exercise routing by adding different exercises, changing the weight or resistance.

You can also add variety to your bodyweight exercise routine by renting videos (don’t purchase then you use the same one over and over) or ask friends, family or co-workers to exercise with your. Make sure to include those bodyweight and cardio exercises you like the best when varying your routine, that way you can do what you like and make the most of it.

Even a ten minute bodyweight exercise can be effective using these tips. By making the most of your bodyweight exercise workout you can boost your metabolism, build muscle, and sculpt your body without hours of time, expensive equipments or boring exercises you have no interest in.

There are many benefits of eating healthy foods. Most people think that eating healthy foods will help them lose weight, become leaner, lose body fat, and give them more energy. Yes, these things are all true. What most people do not realize is that there is a link between good nutrition and illness.

The benefits of eating healthy go far beyond getting a six-pack of abs! Eating healthy and providing your body with better nutritional needs helps yourself by building up your body’s immune system – it’s disease fighting mechanism. When your immune system is stronger you have less chance of becoming ill. A strong immune system is ready to combat any virus or bacteria that enters your body – helping you to stay healthy, longer!

If you don’t provide your body with good nutrition then just like your physical appearance, your immune system will suffer. It becomes weaker and can’t function the way that it should. You will be more prone to illness because of this. Poor nutrition will lead to an increased frequency of the number of times per year that you get sick. This is an inverse relationship between good nutrition and illness – the worse your nutrition is the more likely it is that you will get sick.

The heatlh benefits of good nutrition far outweigh poor nutrition in regards to staying healthy. You can’t expect your body to stay strong and function properly if all you ever feed it is junk food. Foods that are high in saturated fats, salt and processed flour. These foods interfere with the body’s ability to fight illness and stay healthy. They can make the body’s immune system weaker which leaves you prone to disease. When you are sick you cannot do the things that you need to do to lose weight, body fat and unwanted pounds.

So the benefits of eating healthy foods goes far beyond simply losing weight. The health benefits of good nutrition will provide you with a strong disease fighting mechanism so you can stay healthy longer and achieve the body image that is right for you.

Not only athletes and sportsmen, but also common individuals have to deal with tiredness, and also less energy. It is hard to expend your energy in a short spurt and then have to go through the whole day listlessly. If you are a sports person, then it is even worse. You start your race or game with a burst of energy and then are not able to last out because you are tired. People confuse big muscles and a toned frame for a storehouse of inexhaustible supply of energy. It simply is not true. When a common person gets tired, he makes mistakes like miss a turn to his work place, athletes cannot respond quickly and make mistakes that costs them the game. Fatigue is, putting it simply; when the body cannot produce energy required to do ones work. Why does one get tired and have no energy? Science has developed enough to give us a good idea of the entire process, which is complex. It involves use of oxygen and the nutrients in our body and the elements.

Our muscles use a chemical compound which every sports person is familiar with called adenosine triphosphate called ATP to generate energy. This chemical makes the muscles contract and is produced through normal metabolic processes, during which the nutrients in our body are broken down into sugars. This sugar gets either used immediately or converted into glycogen and stored as fats for future use. ATP is used by muscles for that intense spurt of energy that is required since ancient times for split second reactions, for fleeing and in the actual world for that last minute speed that wins the race. For long term energy use we need endurance that is sourced from nutrients stored in body cells. This sourcing involves oxygen. When you lift a heavy bag, you use ATP and not oxygen, but when you are walking a long distance your body uses fats, proteins, carbohydrates and these need to be broken down to be absorbed and metabolized. This needs oxygen. So, naturally, low levels of oxygen lead to low energy and fatigue.

Hence increasing energy will require sufficient levels of oxygen in the body. It is also very important to have the right nutrients the body needs to break down to get the right amount of ATP required. Athletes know this and have all the elements, the fats and the carbohydrates in place so that they have a sufficient supply of energy. Energy in both forms is essential but, as a sportsperson will tell you, increasing energy is all about being able to give the muscles ATP when they need it.

One important element used by athletes and increasingly being adopted by people wanting to lose weight and getting fitter is creatine phosphate. This is now sold as a supplement too. It is naturally made by your body in the pancreas, liver and kidney with the help of amino acids. Creatine phosphate is very useful in increasing energy in the body. You could take the supplement or you could also eat well, consult your nutritionist who will guide you on the right sort of diet for your metabolism. Every one has unique needs, and if you are just a weekend player or someone who works out on alternate days, you may not need many supplements. A natural and balanced diet is the best for you. However, if you are planning to build your body or are taking up a game professionally, you need all the help you get to get your energy requirements.

Even though it’s common knowledge that exercise (among other things) is the key to a long and healthy life, it still doesn’t change the fact that it can be a long, grueling and time consuming process. Don’t get me wrong, exercise can also be a therapeutic activity that takes your mind off of the daily grind called life. But in that daily grind, time is gold in the hand. This is the wonderful thing about circuit training. It saves time and it keeps the fun involved in your exercise regimen.

Circuit training is defined as completing several resistance exercises in a continual sequence. The difference comes with the variety and short rests in between sets. Once circuit can go something like pull ups, push ups, squats and planks with a 30 to 45 second rest in between sets. The small amount of time between sets is where the challenge comes in. It keeps the heart rate up and contributes to the cardiovascular part of the circuit.

When it comes to circuit training, your options are almost limitless. You can look up many different kinds of circuit programs on line or you can make up your own. When you make up your own, make sure you consider load, tempo and duration. Also when making your own regimen, make it fun. The more fun your workouts are for you, the more likely you are to stick with it.

Remember, when it comes to circuit training it’s all about variety. Using compound movements will make it more of a challenge for your muscles resistance wise and aerobic wise. Enjoy your wellness.

The effects of good nutrition on the body are as visible as the effects of bad nutrition on the body. The difference is that bad nutrition can destroy the body, while good nutrition only supports and builds up the body. Hence, the better goal in life is to maintain a lifestyle that promotes good nutrition. This will cause many positive effects, including the following 5 effects of good nutrition.

5 Effects of Good Nutrition:

1. Maintain normal body function

This includes better learning, proper balance and pH in the body tissues, to stabilize and regulate body systems like blood pressure, rebuild tissues, and maintain proper blood sugar levels

2. Maintain healthy weight

This includes proper blood pressures, less likely to allow diseases like Diabetes, heart malfunctions

3. Prevent disease

This includes prevention of cancer, tissue disease, parasitical invasions, bacterial infections

4. Pass along good start to future generations

Healthy babies, immune system, healthy pregnancy

5. Provide stress relief

Reduce side effects of drugs, boost immune system, maintain calm and coping abilities

If you can enjoy these 5 effects of good nutrition, you will be well on your way to a better, healthier body that is able to function properly.

One key to getting good nutrition regularly is to avoid excess. Balance food intake between the major groups, and eat appropriate amounts. You need a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, fats, vitamins, minerals, fiber, and other nutrients. A multi vitamin may be helpful if you are not sure about your food intake but it is not a substitute for eating properly. Water is essential to body functioning, moving nutrients into cells, and handling waste disposal.

You can obtain and follow the standard daily food pyramid and recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) put out by the government. It is adjusted according to age because dietary needs change as a person ages.

This pyramid is composed of nutritional groups of: calories, carbohydrates, fats, proteins, fiber, vitamins and minerals, and includes lists of antioxidants and herbs that are beneficial to health.

Besides age, the body’s nutritional needs change with use of drugs, or disorders and diseases that affect the body’s ability to meet those needs, or interfere with absorption or intake of food nutrients.

There are more than the above 5 effects of good nutrition, but these go a long way to getting you started in a healthy lifestyle if you pay attention. By the way, if you cant pay attention, you may need better nutrition! Avoid excess sweets and highly refined food, because they can cause bacterial excesses that can even have a lethal result if left unchecked (Candida). By providing the proper fuel (food) to your body, you enable it to function at its optimum capacity, keeping you healthy, happy, and fit for years and years, with benefits extending even unto the next generation.
