No More Dieting!

August 12, 2009

I don’t know about you, but I was never crazy about diets or dieting in any form. Why? Because dieting is not a consistent way of maintaining a healthy lifestlye. This is just my opinion by the way. If your a wrestler or a runner and you need to drop a few pounds to qualify for an event, then that may be different. But if you’re trying to maintain a healthy lifestlye, then dieting might not be the right move.

Try these methods on for size. Choose more fiber rich foods like fruits, vegetables, whole wheat bread and muffins. In addition to blocking the absorbtion of some of the calories that you consume by moving them through your body before they can be absorbed, fiber rich foods can also boost your energy level and help you think more clearly. Start with about 30 grams a day.

Limit Refined Carbs- Refined carbs such as white bread and white pasta (yeah, two of my favorites) are generally less healthy than high fiber carbs like vegetables, fruits, whole grains and beans. Another thing about refined carbs, they are broken down in your system so fast that your hungry again sooner than later.

Ease Up On The Soda- One soda can contain up to 150 calories. Yes, 150 in ONE can! If you have to have a soda or juice every now and then (I know I do), have them as stand alone snacks. Stick to calorie free beverages like unsweetened tea, low calorie drinks, and water, Water, WATER!

Eat When Your Hungry, Not When You Feel Like It- This can be kind of tricky. If your bored, going to a movie, nervouse or stressed, eating when you’re not hungry can just pile on more unwanted calories. You’ve got to learn to listen to your body and show some restraint when need be. Don’t starve yourself and don’t stuff yourself (more on this in future post).

Well there you have it. These are some of the things that I do to maintain my eating habits. Try them out and tell me how they work for you. Enjoy your wellness.
